Technical Information
Steels:
I grind
my knives from a variety of steels, including 440C, ATS-34, 154CM, D2, 5160, 01,
1095, and a few others on occasion. My
personal preference is 440C.
Heat Treating:
I do my
own heat treating in a digitally controlled electric furnace.
Edge Geometry:
I
believe that a flat grind, ground reasonably thin, provides an excellent balance
between cutting ability and strength. For
this reason I
flat grind all my blades.

Blade Finish:
All my
knives come with a hand-rubbed finish.
Handles & Fittings:
I use a
wide variety of materials, both natural and synthetic, for handles. Natural materials include bone, horn, stag, and carefully
chosen hardwoods. Synthetics
include micarta, neoprene, and plastics.
Fittings
are made from stainless steel, aircraft grade aluminum, brass, and nickel
silver. Bolsters and guards are
attached with pins or screws, and handles are attached with pins and epoxy.
All thong holes are lined. Some
knives feature decorative filework and textured bolsters.

Sheaths:
Included
with each knife is an appropriate sheath made of leather, kydex, or a
combination of the two depending on the style of the knife.
I craft my own sheaths, stitch leather by hand, and wet mold all leather
sheaths to fit each knife. Where
kydex is used, I thermoform it in my own press to fit the knife.
